Cannabis has been long known to possess anti-tumor properties. As a matter of fact, it`s anti-cancer activity was discovered by researchers long ago, back in 1974, and it has been kept a secret up until recently. A study reported in Washington Post in August 18, 1974, shows that “ THC, a cannabis`s compound slowed the growth of lung cancers, breast cancers and a virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, and prolonged their lives by as much as 36 percent.”
A year later, a 1975 study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute entitled “Antineoplastic Activity of Cannabinoids,” reported that “Lewis lung adenocarcinoma growth was retarded by the oral administration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabinol (CBD). Mice treated for 20 consecutive days with THC and CBD had reduced primary tumor size.”
According to a 1998 research done by scientists at Madrid’s Complutense University Led by Dr. Manuel Guzman, THC induces programmed cell death in brain cells selectively, meaning that it kills off affected cells and leaves the healthy ones intact. The team of researchers reported in the March 2002 issue of “Nature Medicine” that injecting rats with THC had destroyed their brain cancer cells. Moreover, in 2007 Harvard researchers discovered that the compounds found in cannabis inhibit the growth of lung cancer. The organization called the SETH Group showed that cannabis`s compounds can even inhibit the growth of glioblastoma multiform (GBM) brain cancer cells. “No chemotherapy can match this non-toxic anti-cancer action,”– the group stated. Ultimately, a 2012 study done by the scientist at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco found THC stops metastasis in many types of aggressive cancer.
According to Liu, an oncologist at the University of London’s St. George’s medical school, “If you talk about a drug company that spent billions of pounds trying to develop these new drugs that target these pathways, cannabis does exactly the same thing – or certain elements of cannabis compounds do exactly the same thing – so you have something that is naturally produced which impacts the same pathways that these fantastic drugs that cost billions also work on.”
He goes on to say that THC kills cancer cells by stimulating the body’s own cannabinoid receptors, which in turn creates endocannabinoids. The best part is that it does so without any psychoactive effects, contrary to popular belief.
It is worth mentioning that cannabis treatment is effective in children too, despite the fact that experts were initially hesitant. A couple of years ago, a 8-month-old baby with centrally located and inoperable brain tumor experienced a notable reduction in the massive tumor after being given a cannabinoid oil. As unbelievable as it seems, the baby was completely cured within 8 months. After witnessing these amazing results, doctors have publicly admitted that adults and even children will no longer need to undergo surgery or radiation, as cannabis provides the same effects without the long-term side effects.
The same cannabinoids he talks about have been also found to limit neurologicl damage like trauma or stroke as well as to treat neurological diseases like HIV dementia, Parkinson`s disease, and Alzheimer`s disease.
