Home Remedies for Premature Graying of Hair

The premature graying of the hair is one of the most common issues for adults between the age of 20 and 30. It often occurs as a result of stress, poor nutrition, genetic predisposition, hormonal fluctuations, thyroid disorders, sinusitis, and chronic colds. All these conditions lead to reduced production of melanin, the natural pigment that is responsible for the hair color.

But luckily for us, there are many natural treatments which can solve the problem of gray hair. Before using any of the treatments presented below, you need to make sure that your diet is full of vitamins and minerals such as iodine, iron, Vitamin B, and copper to prevent further aggravation of the problem.

The Top Ten natural treatments for premature graying of the hair!

1.Indian Gooseberry

Indian gooseberry (or Amla) has powerful anti-aging properties as a result of its high amount of vitamin C and antioxidants. This characteristic is very helpful in preventing hair loss and premature graying. You can either consume the fruit or apply an amla pulp or amla oil directly on your hair in order to experience the most of its amazing benefits. We recommend you to boil a few dried Indian gooseberries or amla powder in a coconut oil, leave it to cool, and then apply it on the scalp and hair. Allow the mixture to act until the next morning, and then wash your hair with warm water. Repeat the treatment twice a week. There is also another way to use amla. All you need to do is to mix a tbsp of lemon juice and a tbsp of amla pulp and massage the scalp right before bedtime. Wash the hair the following morning. You should repeat this treatment 3 times per week. The third option is to combine almond oil and Indian gooseberry juice and apply it on the hair twice a week to boost hair growth and prevent graying.

2.Curry Leaves

The mixture of Curry leaves and coconut oil can help stimulate the production of melanin. Pour a tbsp of coconut oil and in a pan, add a few curry leaves and boil them until they get charred. Apply this combination on your hair and allow it act for 45 minutes. Then, wash your hair with warm water. Repeat the procedure twice a week.

3.Henna

Henna has the ability to strengthen the lustrous locks and darken the hair. We recommend you to mix a ground henna leaves, tbsp. of coffee powder, 3 tablespoons of Indian gooseberry powder, and a little bit of plain yogurt. Apply the paste on the hair and let it dry. Then wash your hair. You should repeat this twice a month.

The second option is to combine hot black coffee and henna powder in order to a make a mixture with the consistency of yogurt. Allow it sit for a few hours, and then apply it and allow it to act for 3 hours. After that, wash your hair. Repeat this twice a month.

4.Lemon Juice and Coconut Oil

Coconut oil helps the hair growth, moisturizes it, and prevents graying as a result of its high content of antioxidants. We recommend you to mix  some coconut oil with 3 tbsp of lemon juice. Apply the mixture on the hair and leave it to act for 1 hour. Then wash the hair. Repeat the treatment once a week.

5.Sage and Rosemary

Sage and rosemary are very effective in darkening gray hair. Add half a cup of dried leaves of these herbs in a pot with 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Allow it to cool for a few hours, then strain and use it to rinse your hair after shampooing. Let it act for 20 minutes, and the wash your hair with warm water. Use this treatment once a week.

6.Blackstrap Molasses

This is a very popular remedy for graying hair because it helps the production of pigments that can effectively reduce gray hair.

The consumption of one tbsp of blackstrap molasses every morning will provide us 14 % of the recommended daily intake of copper, as well as high amounts of magnesium and iron.

7.Onion Juice

One recent study has shown two very interesting findings.

  • Researchers have found that graying of the hair is a result of an accumulation of hydrogen peroxide at the bases of hair follicles bases.
  • But, they have also discovered that onion juice promotes the production of catalase, a common enzyme that catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen.

Therefore, you should massage the scalp with onion juice, leave it to act for 40 minutes, and then wash your hair. Repeat this every day for a few weeks.

8.Black tea

Some studies have shown that black tea can efficiently darken and soften the hair. We recommend you to boil 2 tbsp of black tea in a cup of water, then add a teaspoon of salt, and allow it cool. Rinse your hair with this few times. The last time, leave it to act for 20. After that wash the hair with a cold water without using a shampoo. Repeat the procedure twice a week.

9. Amaranth

Amaranth helps restores the natural hair color, stops hair loss and prevents graying. First, you should wash your hair, then apply fresh juice extracted from the amaranth leaves on the hair, and rinse with water.

10. Black Sesame Seeds

Black sesame seeds are effective in preventing the premature graying of the hair because they help the production of melanin. They are rich in protein, iron, copper, magnesium, phosphorus. We recommend you to consume one teaspoon of black sesame seeds every day for 3 months.
