Stephanie Seneff, one of the most cited research scientists in the world and author of many scientific publications on topics ranging from Alzheimer’s disease to autism and cardiovascular disease, made an alarming prediction regarding ASD:
“At today’s rate, by 2025, one in two children will be autistic,”
Dr. Seneff, a senior research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), presented a data which shows a correlation between the increased use of Glyphosate (a key component in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide) and growing rates of autism. Although her data can’t “prove” that autism is directly caused by roundup, the numbers speak for themselves. For example, the number of children who suffer from autism has increased from 1 in 5000 in 1975 to 1 in 68 in 2014. Her analysis shows that the epidemic of autism grows at an enormously high rate since 1990 - when Monsanto’s herbicide became the leading weedkiller in the USA. Dr. Seneff also noted that children with autism have biomarkers which are probably caused as a result excessive glyphosate levels. Some of them include disrupted gut bacteria, zinc and iron deficiency, low serum sulfate, seizures, and mitochondrial disorder.
According to Dr. Seneff, the main toxic effects of Glyphosate include:
- Glyphosate kills beneficial bacteria and allows pathogens to grow.
- Interferes with the function of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes.
- It also causes deficiencies in key minerals such as iron, cobalt, manganese, and magnesium.
- Interferes with synthesis of aromatic amino acids and methionine (which causes shortages in critical neurotransmitters and folate).
- Disrupts the sulfate synthesis and sulfate transport.
Dr. Seneff claims that most studies about the dangers of Roundup are too short to truly identify the harmful effects of Roundup accumulation in the body. She also added that other ingredients in Roundup can greatly increase the negative effects of glyphosate.
Additionally, recent findings have shown that glyphosate levels in the breast milk of American mothers are 760 to 1600 higher than European Drinking Water Directive allows. Urine testing also shows that Americans have 10 times more glyphosate in their urine when compared to Europeans.
